Unity in Our Community TimeBank Coordinator

Contractual Position: Between 20-30 hours per week at $20.00 per hour. 

One Year Contract with possibility of renewal. 

The contractor will be responsible for their own taxes.

Job summary:

The Unity in Our Community TimeBank Project Coordinator will run the day-to-day operation of the TimeBank by facilitating exchanges among members and organizing Timebank classes and events. They will also develop relationships with local partners and build the reputation and effectiveness of the TimeBank. This position reports to the Timebank’s Kitchen Cabinet (leadership team).

Main duties:

  1. Foster relationships among Timebank members
  • Support members to identify the skills, knowledge and experience that they can offer and the help that they need.
  • Broker exchanges among members by matching members’ offers and requests.
  • Encourage members to give, ask for, and receive help.
  • Maintain regular contact with members via email and newsletter.
  1. Bring people together and organize events
  • Encourage involvement of TimeBank members in group projects and in planning.
  • Run social events for members.
  • Organize classes and group projects using the skills available in the TimeBank.
  • Gradually develop the skill base of the TimeBank.
  1. Use and teach the Timebank software
  • Using TimeBank software, maintain the Timebank’s hours account.
  • Train members in using the Timebank software.
  1. Develop local partnerships and projects
  • Develop a keen knowledge of Southwest Detroit and its resources.
  • Establish and develop good connections with local groups and organizations, local authorities, and businesses to engage with the TimeBank.
  • Work with partners to identify needed activities that have a local value, and gather diverse groups of TimeBank members to do projects.
  • Explore what incentives partners may offer to TimeBank members.
  • Attend monthly Learning Circles of the Michigan Alliance of Timebanks.
  1. Build the reputation and effectiveness of the TimeBank
  • Record projects, stories and pictures from TimeBanking activities.
  • Contribute to the TimeBank’s publicity.
  • Support development of the Kitchen Cabinet and develop leadership capacities of its members.
  • Lead fundraising efforts for continuing the timebank mission.
  • Explore fundraising opportunities, including grant proposals.
  1. Attract and recruit new members
  • As time allows, attract interest in TimeBanking from a wide diversity of people in Southwest Detroit.
  • Recruit new TimeBank members.
  1. Manage Volunteer Program for Bridging Communities Inc (BCI)
    • Work in partnership with Bridging Communities staff
    • Recruit volunteers for pre-determined events
    • Recruit and manage volunteers for monthly Focus Hope food deliveries to homebound seniors
    • Recruit and manage volunteers for Holiday Remembrance deliveries
    • Check phone messages on volunteer phone 2-3 times a week
    • Arrange for volunteer medical transportation for Bridging Communities clients
    • Will ensure that they complete only what is required in the MOU with BCI and prioritizes Timebank work, when possible.

General expectations:

  1. Available for occasional evening meetings and events.
  2. Work within the Timebank’s vision and values.
  3. Contribute to planning and fundraising.
  4. Work in accordance with all policies and procedures of the Timebank.
  5. Work closely with the Kitchen Cabinet Leadership team and undergo regular supervision and evaluations at three, six, and twelve months.
  6. Ensure that guidelines for grant funding are met and report regularly to funders, meeting deadlines for doing so. Correspond with fiduciary sponsor for disbursement of funds as necessary.
  7. Undertake any other duties appropriate to the position, as required.

Experience

Project management experience

Experience with organizing events

Experience working with community groups or organizations

Experience planning and organizing work to meet targets

Experience with and agreement of the core values of TimeBanking

Experience with grant writing and fundraising

Basic Computer Skills including experience using email, google suite, doing data entry in databases.
